JT Recognized with Three Publicity Club of Chicago Awards
The Publicity Club of Chicago recognized JT’s work at its annual awards celebration.
Our December 2017 partnership with World Business Chicago for the North American Climate Summit was awarded a Golden Trumpet in the category of special events. We are so proud to have had the opportunity to organize this two-day international event featuring more than 60 mayors from North America. The Summit demonstrated international leadership by Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the City of Chicago on climate change, despite decisions made in D.C., and concluded with remarks by President Obama.
JT worked closely with World Business Chicago to manage event logistics and stage management, media outreach and social media content development. The Summit received local, national and international media attention in more than 60 national/international outlets.
Our work developing and implementing They Deserve More, a coalition of nearly 80 agencies and associations from around the state advocating for a liveable wage for those who care for people with disabilities, was awarded a Silver Trumpet in the advocacy campaign category. A passion project for many at JT, They Deserve More was successful with the Illinois State legislature last spring after nine years of no additional funding to support direct support professionals (DSPs). In late spring 2017, when many social service organizations received nothing from the state (some even had funding lowered), Illinois legislators included $53 million in the state budget to provide a small (75 cents-per-hour) wage increase for DSPs, and then were able to override the Governor’s veto of the budget. Powerful personal stories through video, digital and traditional media, were a hallmark of our success.
Our work with They Deserve More has continued into 2018 as we hope to finish what we started – securing a competitive wage for these dedicated workers so that those with disabilities get the care they deserve.
Finally, our fundraising video “Life without Limits”, produced in partnership with UCP Seguin, a nonprofit serving individuals with developmental disabilities, also brought home a Silver Trumpet! The video helped launch UCP’s fundraising campaign and was used to showcase the critical need for the services the organization provides and how these services help people with disabilities live life to their fullest potential.
We are honored to work with such amazing, inspiring clients and are proud to have played a part in creating greater public awareness of and engagement in these important issues.
