Foundation For Systemic Change Wins Gold For National High School Journalism Competition
In November 2022, JT and the Foundation For Systemic Change invested in the future of young journalists by launching a nationwide High School Journalism Competition. Formally launched by JT staff member Morgan McDonough, the Fred Ross Systemic Change asked students to report on an individual or organization working towards change in their community. This competition enabled students to collaborate with mentors and provided monetary prizes for the first, second, and third-place winners. JT created various materials to promote the competition, including flyers, social media posts, presentations, and resources sent to high school journalism teachers to boost engagement throughout the school year. Over 125 students participated in the competition, with AJ Naser from Lick-Wilderding High School in San Francisco winning for his report on a local community farm's efforts to reduce food scarcity.
Start Early Receives Silver for Early Childhood Research and Policy Agenda
Start Early, a non-profit organization promoting early childhood development, issued a research and policy agenda, which JT, with design partner Xenia Demo, packaged into an easy-to-understand narrative and compelling visual publication. JT’s in-house video producer cut short testimonials of parents and educators that were featured in the digital version of the publication.
West Side Boys & Girls Club in Chicago Takes Home Silver
It had been nearly thirty years since the last Boys & Girls Club opened in Chicago. JT positive media coverage for the grand opening of a new Boys & Girls Club on the West Side. Recognizing early on that this is more than just a physical space, the JT team focused the media campaign on the youth who will benefit from the Club. These efforts resulted in significant exposure, including editorial features in the Chicago Sun-Times, Block Club Chicago and CBS News as well as extensive coverage across print, radio, television, and online platforms that highlighted the youth of the West Side.
JT was honored to receive a Silver Trumpet in the category of “Media” for this work.
