JT promotes COVID-19 action plan to policymakers and public

The devastating health, social, and economic impacts of COVID-19 on Chicago and our nation cannot be overstated. Policymakers and families alike have had to grapple with balancing health and safety against the need to maintain essential services and protect jobs and income.

In response to this uncertainty, a bipartisan group of experts in economics, public health, technology and ethics banded together to develop the nation’s first operational roadmap for safely reopening the economy, known as the “Roadmap to Pandemic Resilience.” Distributed by Harvard University’s Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics with support from the Rockefeller Foundation, the Roadmap calls for massive increases in testing capacity, contact tracing and supported isolation, or “TTSI.” The Roadmap and a supplemental report effectively provide an action plan and toolkit for policymakers to create a logical and safe pathway out of massive quarantine and economic shutdown.

JT was privileged to help promote this smart, solutions-based approach for saving lives and livelihoods. Like much of our public affairs work, our role was to break through the news clutter and give voice to a serious proposal, to take complicated information and make it relatable and actionable. Major outlets and local media across the country gave expansive coverage to the Roadmap, and leaders across the political spectrum took notice, and asked how they could use the information to inform their own planning.

For us, the Roadmap and its dedicated, tireless author-advocates resonated for their can-do attitude and their interest in setting aside partisan politics to develop meaningful solutions. The Roadmap shows how our nation can come together with a coordinated response if we demonstrate the collective will to act together.
